KARAKTERISTIK PENGUSAHA, KARAKTERISTIK USAHA KECIL MENENGAH DAN VARIABEL KONTEKSTUAL SEBAGAI FAKTOR PENENTU PERTUMBUHAN USAHA (STUDI USAHA KECIL MENENGAH AMPLANG DI KABUPATEN KOTABARU KALIMANTAN SELATAN)
The economy of a country is strongly supported by the development of productive small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are able to move the wheels of the economy. The emergence of small and medium enterprises will be able to absorb labor. The ability to absorb a large workforce will reduce the number of unemployed in Indonesia.
In the process, there are several SMEs that can develop and then become successful, but not a few who experience failure or even not operate. Based on previous research (Langenberg, 2004) in Kristiningsih and Adrianto (2014) in Jogjakarta it was stated that the success of SMEs is influenced by several factors. The study found that marketing, technology and capital positively influence business success, and legality affects business success negatively. Another interesting finding is that highly educated entrepreneurs (university graduates) are less successful than entrepreneurs who only have elementary, middle and high school degrees.
The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of entrepreneurs, the characteristics of small and medium businesses and business contextual variables in the industrial growth of Amplang in Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. The population in this study were all businessmen of Amplang in Kotabaru Regency. Data collection method uses interview, observation and documentation methods.
The results showed that the characteristics of Amplang entrepreneurs in Kotabaru Regency were male (78%), with an average age above 51 years (56%) with high school education level (45%) to Bachelor (33%), but mostly do not have work experience in the business field of amplang (78%). Based on the business variable, it can be seen that the businessman of Amplang in Kotabaru has run his business for more than 10 years, already has employees above 5 people with a source of capital from his own capital and has a factory location itself and this business is largely a result of own business but the turnover of income per month is mostly still below 5 million. Based on contextual variables that entrepreneurs in Kotabaru sell their products until they leave Kotabaru, have easy access to information, have legality or business permit , ready to face competition by making management and innovation teams, but still lacking in making pe business planning and technology use.
