Abstract

Marine and fisheries sector became one of the Indonesian hallmarks which can drive the national
economy. The potential fisheries in Indonesia scattered in various areas, including the North
Coast Area of Pati Regency in Java Island. In this regency, there are a number of fish auction
location (TPI) that accommodate various types of fish caught by the fisherman. However, data on
fish catches are not yet optimally processed and published widely. Hence many parties, either the
national or local authorities, investors, and even among TPI manager did not know and recognize
the potential of fisheries, particularly marine fish species caught. This research aims to develop a
geographic information system that capable to describe the distribution of potential fishery in Pati
regency, Central Java. System was developed as a web-based application with a number of key
features include visualization of data acquisition into many graphics that capable of showing the
trend of increase or decrease in fish catches, comparative fish catches  from various TPI, and
information of the fish selling price among TPI. In addition, system also able to display a map of
the potential fishery of each TPI based on the number of fish catches. Data was divided into three
categories, namely low, medium, and high. Data categorization was based on Sturges Theorem.
Meanwhile, the main user of the system also divided into three types, namely system administrator
which has the primary task to manage master data and user accounts, TPI administrator as the
provider of routine data, ie data on the number of fish, total weights, and current prices, and
common citizens who have needs related to the fisheries information. This study shows with the
proper of data processing and data visualization, the fishery potential information can be
disseminated to support decision making for the concerned parties.
